2nd Update: There are now reports that not only is George Zimmerman no longer in custody, but he is apparently claiming that Shellie Zimmerman instigated the altercation. It is also reported that Shellie and her father have chosen to not press charges.

Since his acquittal, I’ve been predicting that it’s only a matter of time until George Zimmerman gets himself into serious trouble. There have been two speeding violations, the inappropriate trip to the gun factory that manufactured the pistol George used to kill Trayvon Martin, and now right at this moment George is being held in “investigative custody” in Lake Mary, Florida for allegedly threatening his estranged wife Shellie Zimmerman and her father with his ubiquitous gun.
Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell told the Associated Press that Shellie Zimmerman called police shortly after 2 p.m. on Monday. Bracknell says Zimmerman hasn’t been arrested and officers are at the house trying to determine what happened.
At present, Zimmerman in standing under some trees, mostly shielded from view, on property across the way from Shellie Zimmerman’s parents’ house. He was with a blonde woman and a male companion who have since been removed from the scene. There are numerous police cars at the scene. The situation is being covered live from an air helicopter by WKMG Local 6. Click on this link to view the proceedings live.
Since “investigative custody” is not a term we are used to, I can only surmise as to what it actually means, but I suspect it means that the police are deciding whether or not to arrest George for brandishing a weapon and threatening to use it. It is not yet clear whether the police have taken George’s gun away, but for everyone’s sake, I hope they have.
It is noted that the police are allowing Zimmerman to make calls on his cell phone. Perhaps he’s calling 9-11.
Shellie Zimmerman’s parents house is on Sprucewood Road in Lake Mary.
Updated:
Shellie Zimmerman made the following statement concerning the altercation between George Zimmerman and her and her father in her 9-11 call:
“He’s in his car and he continually has his hand on his gun and he keeps saying ‘step closer’ and he’s just threatening all of us.”
“He punched my dad in the nose my dad has a mark on the nose. I saw his glasses were on the floor. He then accosted my father then took my iPad out of my hands. He then smashed it and cut it with a pocketknife, and there is a Lake Mary city worker across the street that I believe saw all of it.”
“I don’t know what he’s capable of. I’m really scared.”
As of 4:00 pm Florida time Zimmerman was no longer in “investigative custody.” The police are apparently treating the incident as a case of domestic battery.
