George Zimmerman Trial: Inadmissible Evidence Cuts Both Ways

by Robert Emmett Murphy, Jr.

In their constant effort to assassinate the character of George Zimmerman’s victim, 17 year old Trayvon Martin, Zimmerman’s  lawyers tried to get Martin’s texts, tweets, and internet posts introduced as evidence at his trial. They argued that this information was relevant, and wanted desperately to paint a picture of the dead boy as prone to violence and criminality, which, they figured, would bolster Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense.

hoodJudge Debra Nelson denied the request, and in some quarters, the press have expressed rage about how obviously prejudicial the judge was being against the family man and former Neighborhood Watch Commander who claimed that Martin acted suspiciously and then brutally attacked him on a dark and rainy night last year, which led to Trayvon’s death.

Inflammatory headlines on the part of the aggrieved right-wing press have included:

“Florida judge rules Trayvon Martin thuggery is inadmissible”

“Violent Texts Inadmissible: Judge Rules Against Zimmerman on Evidence”

dead“More Judicial Bias Exhibited In George Zimmerman Trial”

“Biased judge should be removed from trial for blocking evidence in Zimmerman case”

“Disorder: Judge Recesses Zimmerman Trial Excluding Damning Evidence”

Judge Nelson is the second judge to serve on the Zimmerman case. The first judge, Kenneth Lester, Jr., was ordered to disqualify himself because of bias concerns after his strong negative reaction to Zimmerman’s misleading the court during his bail hearings.

Here are some representative selections of the kind of incendiary evidence the jury will not get to see:

mean“I dont miss driving around scared to hit mexicans walkin on the side of the street, soft ass wanna be thugs messin with peoples cars when they aint around (what are you provin, that you can dent a car when no ones watchin) dont make you a man in my book. Workin 96 hours to get a decent pay check, gettin knifes pulled on you by every mexican you run into!”

In August 2005, he posted his thoughts about felony criminal charges that were brought against him:

“Im still free! The ex hoe tried her hardest, but the judge saw through it! Big Mike, reppin the Dverse security makin me look a million bucks, broke her down! Thanks to everyone for checkin up on me! Stay tuned for the A.T.F. charges……”

A few days later, he expresses his happiness that the other charges were reduced to misdemeanors.

“2 felonies dropped to 1 misdemeanor!!!!!!!!!!! The man knows he was wrong but still got this hump, Thanks to everyone friends and fam, G baby you know your my rock!”

deadOnly I haven’t been completely honest with you — the above quotes do not reflect a side of Travon Martin that the jury wasn’t allowed to view as evidence; rather, they are taken directly from George Zimmerman’s long defunct Myspace page, and were ruled to be just as inadmissible as anything Trayvon Martin may have said.
