Just when you think you’ve heard everything there is to hear about George Zimmerman, a new story emerges that shows another side of him. On Monday, Matt Gutman and Alexis Shaw of Good Morning America reported that Zimmerman, who has been the recipient of innumerable death threats since his acquittal on second-degree-murder and manslaughter charges, emerged from hiding long enough to help rescue a family who was trapped in an overturned vehicle:
Gutman and Shaw write:
Zimmerman was one of two men who came to the aid of Dana and Mark Gerstle and their two children, who were trapped inside a blue Ford Explorer SUV that had rolled over after traveling off the highway in Sanford, Fla. at approximately 5:45 p.m. Thursday, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The crash occurred at the intersection of I-4 and route Route 46, police said. The crash site is less than a mile from where Zimmerman shot Martin.
By the time police arrived, two people – including Zimmerman – had already helped the family get out of the overturned car, the sheriff’s office said. No one was reported to be injured.
Zimmerman was not a witness to the crash and left after speaking with the deputy, police said.

It seems unlikely that the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office would have simply made the story up to cast Zimmerman in a positive light. Unless the story is disproved (calling all conspiracy theorists), I have to assume that the above events did transpire and that Zimmerman did help pull the family members out of their overturned vehicle. In fact, such behavior would seem to be in keeping with Zimmerman’s alleged penchant for helping the community — as manifested in his serving as Neighborhood Watch Commander prior to the fateful night on which he shot and killed Trayvon Martin under disputed circumstances.
